On December 10, a legal salon titled “Empowering the Region Through the Constitution, Supporting Private Enterprises Through the Law” was successfully held in Wuhan. Jointly organized by relevant committees and co-organized by WEIPR Group alongside a local law firm, the event focused on key legal challenges facing private enterprises. Through expert dialogues and case studies, it provided tailored guidance to help improve the business environment.
Expert Insights on Core IP Protection Issues
As a seasoned expert in the intellectual property field, Yu Hao, Chairman of WEIPR Group, delivered a keynote speech addressing fundamental issues in corporate IP protection.

He highlighted that the Civil Code's formal recognition of intellectual property as an independent legal domain has substantially elevated its standing. Enterprises should, therefore, adopt an integrated strategic protection framework encompassing “rights establishment, enforcement, and commercialization,” positioning IP as a core asset for value-driven operations.
Yu specifically cautioned against the criminal exposure associated with trademark infringement, noting that the use of similar marks on identical or related goods can constitute infringement—with potential criminal liability triggered at a valuation threshold of approximately $7,000 USD. He advised engaging professional agencies for trademark applications to navigate complexities in classification and similarity assessment effectively.
Additionally, he clarified statutory ownership rules for service inventions: creations developed using employer resources or within job-related technical scopes belong to the employer. He recommended that companies clearly define IP ownership terms in employment contracts, while avoiding overly broad interpretations concerning employees’ non-service inventions.
Rule of Law as Pillar for Regional Development
In concluding remarks, a senior official underscored that the rule of law is essential to the city's development as an economic, innovation, and trade hub. A sound legal environment supports healthy business growth. This salon directly addressed the practical needs of private enterprises, demonstrating how institutional expertise can serve broader development goals. Continued efforts in this direction will further advance a rules-based business environment.

The event was attended by over 30 representatives from enterprises, legal professions, and the community. WEIPR Group’s participation and expertise contributed significantly to the dialogue on intellectual property and legal protection.
