The 2025 inaugural "Zhihai Linghang" Patent Navigation Results Release Conference, guided by the Hubei Provincial Intellectual Property Office and hosted by Wuhan WEIPR Patent Agent LLP, was successfully held in Wuhan. Focused on advancing the new energy vehicle (NEV) supply chain, green energy, and BeiDou navigation industries, the event unveiled pivotal research outcomes including the Hubei Province New Energy Vehicle Supply Chain Patent Navigation Research Report, providing strategic insights to drive regional industrial innovation. Over 100 attendees, including Ran Maohua (Director) and Lu Bingjing (Deputy Director) of the Hubei Provincial Intellectual Property Office's Planning and Development Department, alongside representatives from universities and enterprises, participated in the conference.
Addressing Industry Challenges, Mapping Innovation Pathways
During the conference, WEIPR's project team presented an in-depth analysis of patent navigation research on the NEV supply chain. Key findings revealed that as of August 2024, Hubei Province had filed 8,291 patent applications in the NEV sector, accounting for 3.1% of China's total, with invention patents constituting 39.01%. The report highlighted Hubei's technological strengths in automotive echelon recycling, smart cabin OTA upgrades, and AVM panoramic imaging systems. However, gaps persist in critical areas such as lidar technologies and silicon carbide power devices.
To address these challenges, the report proposed a three-pronged strategy:
l Strengthening Core Competencies: Deepen patent barriers in established technical domains and foster high-value patents through industry-academia collaboration.
l Bridging Technological Gaps: Accelerate R&D in weak sectors via industry-university-research partnerships and establish rapid technology transfer channels.
l Future-Proofing Innovation: Proactively patent cross-disciplinary technologies aligned with intelligent and low-carbon trends to secure standard-setting leadership.
Industry-Academia Collaboration Sparks Dialogue
The conference drew participation from leading enterprises such as Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle, Voyah Auto, and academic institutions including Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University. WEIPR Group further elaborated on patent navigation methodologies, global competitive landscapes, and Hubei's regional advantages, sparking lively discussions among attendees. Enterprise representatives praised the report for its comprehensive data, actionable conclusions, and practical guidance on mitigating technical gaps and preempting risks.
As Hubei's leading intellectual property service provider, WEIPR Group remains committed to refining patent navigation services, empowering enterprises in strategic technology deployment and risk management, and supporting Hubei's vision to become a national hub for NEV innovation.
