Intellectual property (IP) pledge financing refers to a financing method where enterprises obtain loan from banks using their legally owned patent rights, trademark rights, and copyrights as collateral after evaluation. IP pledge financing alleviate the problem of "difficult and expensive financing" for enterprises to a certain extent by supplying necessary funds based on IP “asset-light”, and it aims at helping technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) dealing with financial constraint due to the lack of immovable property guarantees. |
The headquarter of
China Electronics Cloud (hereinafter referred to as CEC) was inaugurated in Wuhan in 2021. CEC planned to establish operation center, settlement center and the largest R&D center in Wuhan, which can provide key industries such as government, finance, energy, and transportation with “chip-end-network-cloud-data-intelligence” green computing products and digital governance solutions of independent IP rights.
Recently, CEC obtained an IP pledge loan of 800 million yuan from the Wuhan Branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which is the largest single IP pledge loan ever issued in Wuhan. Its successful application will accelerate the deployment of the “cloud” industry in smart cities. WEIPR has agented more than a hundred invention patents for CEC. We will always bear the values of “integrity, honesty, compliance and professionalism” in mind, and continually escort CEC’s innovative development in the IP field.
In recent years, the Wuhan Municipal Market Supervision Administration (Intellectual Property Office) has vigorously promoted IP pledge financing. The scale of IP pledge loans has continued to expand and the amount has repeatedly set new highs. In 2023, the loan issuance exceeded 4 billion yuan, doubling in three years, injecting new momentum into the development of enterprises. In the next step, the government-guided risk sharing and compensation mechanism for IP pledge financing will be improved, the popularity and benefits of pledge financing will be expanded, and thus effectively empower the innovation and development of enterprises.
In the future, WEIPR will continue to expand its service team, provide more companies with professional IP pledge financing services, aiming at turning “intellectual property” into “assets” and promoting enterprises to realize the value of intellectual property as soon as possible. In this way, the problem of capital shortage in the running of enterprises may be solved, and thus the investment pressure of enterprises in technological innovation and industrial upgrading may be alleviated.
