On 1 January 2026, the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO) will implement an updated fee structure for patents, trademarks, designs, utility models, supplementary protection certificates, and semiconductor designs.
Overall, fees will rise by 20 percent. This adjustment reflects necessary investments in customer-oriented IT solutions and enhanced IT security, as well as the fact that—with few exceptions—fees have remained unchanged since 2002. Had fees been indexed annually to account for price and wage developments since that time, they would now be approximately 45 percent higher than current levels.
The change follows legislation passed by the Danish Parliament on 19 December 2025. Notably, the update also includes a reduction in the transmittal fee for international patent applications (PCT applications), aligning it more closely with the fee levels of the European Patent Office (EPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
