I. Patents
From January to February 2025, China granted 128,000 invention patents, 264,000 utility model patents, and 98,000 design patents.
As of the end of February, the number of valid invention patents in China reached 5.780 million, including 4.772 million domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). Valid utility model patents totaled 11.759 million, and valid design patents amounted to 3.106 million.
During January-February, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) received 10,000 PCT international patent applications, including 9,000 filed by domestic applicants. Chinese applicants submitted 362 international design applications during the same period[1].
II. Trademarks
From January to February 2025, China received 952,000 trademark applications and approved 733,000 trademark registrations. As of February, the number of valid registered trademarks reached 50.226 million.
During January-February, CNIPA received 1,007 Madrid international trademark registration applications from Chinese applicants.
III. Geographical Indications and Integrated Circuit Layout Designs
From January to February, CNIPA approved 4 geographical indications (GIs) as collective or certification trademarks and authorized 1,352 business entities to use GI-specific logos. As of February, China has recognized 2,547 GI products, approved 7,406 GIs as collective or certification trademarks, and authorized 33,401 entities to use GI logos.
During January-February, China received 1,318 integrated circuit layout design registration applications and issued 1,694 certificates.
