1. Patents

In January 2025, 63,000 invention patents, 141,000 utility model patents, and 50,000 design patents were authorized in China.

As of the end of January, the number of valid invention patents in China stood at 5.735 million. Among them, 4.728 million were domestic (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). The number of valid utility model patents was 11.724 million, and the number of valid design patents was 3.096 million.

In January, CNIPA handled 5,600 PCT international patent applications, with 5,300 submitted by domestic applicants.

In January, a total of 197 international design applications were filed by Chinese applicants^[1], and 204 published international design applications designated China.

2. Trademarks

In January, China received 598,000 trademark applications and granted 311,000 trademarks. As of the end of January, the number of valid registered trademarks reached 49.953 million.

In January, CNIPA received 591 Madrid international trademark registration applications from Chinese applicants.

3. Geographical Indications and Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits

In January, CNIPA approved one geographical indication for registration as a collective or certification trademark and authorized 776 business entities to use the dedicated geographical indication logo. As of the end of January, a total of 2,544 geographical indication products had been identified, 7,403 geographical indications had been approved for registration as collective or certification trademarks, and 33,421 business entities had been authorized to use the dedicated geographical indication logo.

In January, China received 680 applications for the registration of layout designs of integrated circuits and issued 675 certificates.
